Gyms and their badges

Part 1

Welcome to Cordia!

Cordia is shaped like a horseshoe around a wide bay. Your journey starts in Working End, at the tip of the west arm. On a clear day, you can see the Pokémon League across the water at the tip of the east arm.

The road goes the long way around the bay. It runs south through grassland and forest to the windy downs, then east across a foggy marsh to the big port of Splice City. From there it climbs north into the snowy mountains and comes down the far side into the desert.

There are eight Gyms along the way, and each leader's type suits their home, like Bug types in the forest and Ice types in the snow. The last Gym is on a volcanic island in the bay. Past it, the lake caverns lead to the Pokémon League at Standing End.

After your fifth badge, you can fly with the Ridge Whistle to any town you have already visited. Later on, a ferry crosses the bay and links the two ends of the horseshoe.

Part 2

People of Cordia

Here are some of the people you will meet on your journey across Cordia.

The professor

Professor Yew

Professor Yew runs the lab in Working End and studies how Pokémon and Trainers read each other. The Professor gives you your first Pokémon and a new kind of Pokédex that also records how your Pokémon respond to you. Expect a call now and then, whenever the Professor wants a new reading.

The hero

You

You live in Working End, a small harbor town at one tip of Cordia. At the start, you choose to be a boy or a girl and pick your name and skin tone.

Next door

Your rival

Your rival is the kid next door: the girl if you play as a boy, or the boy if you play as a girl. You name them too (Finn or Wren, if you keep the defaults). They want to be first at everything, and they always pick the Pokémon with the type advantage over yours.

At home

Mom

Mom is at home in Working End. Stop by anytime to rest your team, and she can tell you where to go next.

The cadet

Ward

Ward is a cadet your age from the Aegis junior program in Splice City. You will meet them on Route 2, where they ask new Trainers for a battle and a few questions. They are very polite and know every rule by heart.

The eight Gym Leaders

Gym 1 · Bowline Town

Hollis

NormalTrail Badge

Hollis was the ranger on Route 1 for years before he became Bowline Town's Gym Leader. You will meet him out on his old route, where he shows new Trainers how to catch Pokémon.

Gym 2 · Clovewood

Silas

BugSilk Badge

Silas keeps the bees in Clovewood and runs the Gym inside its great hollow tree. Even with a visitor, he keeps working while he talks, in his calm and polite way.

Gym 3 · Halyard Point

Jules

ElectricArc Badge

Jules runs the power grid for all of Cordia from the wind farm at Halyard Point. It is so windy at the top of her turbine that she shouts at everybody, but in a cheerful way.

Gym 4 · Splice City

Lenore

GhostMooring Badge

Lenore is Splice City's Gym Leader, and her Gym is the old customs house. She doesn't waste words, so expect to get straight to the battle.

Gym 5 · Belay Ridge

Knox

FightingGrip Badge

Knox leads the Gym at the top of Belay Ridge and is a coach at heart. She calls Trainers by their badge count, and almost everything she says is training advice. She is always up for a battle, even far from her Gym.

Gym 6 · Coldbight

Neve

IceRime Badge

Neve battles Trainers in her own house, at the top of the icy hill above Coldbight. As a careful scientist, she likes every fact to be exactly right.

Gym 7 · Shackle Town

Ferris

SteelGirder Badge

Ferris is the mine foreman of Shackle Town, and his Gym is at the mine. Safety comes first with him, so grab a hard hat from the peg and listen to his briefing.

Gym 8 · Kedge Isle

Ormond

DragonAnchor Badge

Ormond's Gym is out on Kedge Isle, a volcanic island in the bay. He takes his time with every word, and he is happiest talking about fishing and the tide.

Seen all over Cordia

Aegis

Aegis is Cordia's Pokémon safety program, and you will see its members in grey coats all over the region. Their headquarters in Splice City is open for public tours. The grunts are very sure they are right, and some of them will challenge you to a battle.

Standing End

The Pokémon League

Four of Cordia's best Trainers make up the Elite Four at the Pokémon League. Earn all eight Gym Badges to take them on. The Champion is the last battle at the Pokémon League. Beat all four of the Elite Four to earn your chance.
